Description

Leviathan blinked again and again to clear the blood from his eyes, but his vision grew darker by the second.

“What’s wrong, Guardian?” He could hear the sneer in her voice, and spun around to face her, but when she spoke again she was already behind him. “Got something in your eyes?” she asked tauntingly. He lunged at the sound, but his claws found nothing.

“Too slow!” She cackled, and the Dragon darted in and slashed at Leviathan’s back. Gritting his teeth, Leviathan spun around again, but she was too fast. The Dragon darted in and out, ripping and tearing at the guardian. The pilot’s laughter punctuated each blow.

This is bad He flailed his arms, but still found nothing. He was losing blood quickly, and if he didn’t do something soon he was finished.

Suddenly he felt a rush of hot air, and the smell of burnt flesh and the Dragon’s screams filled the air.

“Get away from him!” He heard Kraken yell, followed by grunts of pain. He could hear the Dragon beating him into the ground, and knew his old friend wouldn’t last much longer. The moment’s respite gave him time to think, and his mind went back to his training with Armageddon a thousand years ago.

[All earthly creatures have a limited ability to detect mana, and more with practice.] The titan lay curled at Leviathan’s feet. He flicked his tail and said, [Try it now.]

Leviathan concentrated, and suddenly could see dozens of lifeforms he had never noticed. The rodents that lived in the earth glowed through the cavern walls, the birds that nested in cracks in the titan’s armor when he went above the surface were as clear as day, and hundreds of thousands of insects glowed like tiny flares. “Incredible.” He said quietly. </i>

He snapped back to reality in a flash. Leviathan turned towards the sound of Kraken’s struggle and concentrated. Dimly, he could make out the outline of the two kaiju in his mind, and it was all he needed. Charging, Leviathan smashed into the Dragon and dragged him to the ground. The pilot’s fear flashed across his mind, and he grinned. “Found you!” He roared, and clamped his jaws around the Dragon’s arm.

The creature bellowed in pain, and a long blade slid out of his free arm’s wrist. Plunging the blade into Leviathan’s back, the Dragon pulled free from the guardian’s jaws and flew away. The Pilot shrieked with anger. “That’s not possible, the blood of Apocalypse is poison to you!”

Leviathan pivoted towards the sound. He was struggling to hold the concentration he needed to detect the creature’s mana signature and fight at the same time. The Dragon was barely visible, but the Pilot glowed like a miniature sun. That creature’s barely alive, he realized, The pilot’s the real threat! Leaping onto the Dragon again, Leviathan concentrated his attacks on the pilot’s signature in the creature’s chest. Blow after blow rained on the cockpit, and the Dragon began to falter.

“Qu’Tashi was right, you are smart.” The pilot snarled, “Tracking my mana, aren’t you?”

Leviathan froze, the guardians were extremely secretive about the limits of their powers for a reason. How did she-

“Don’t get a hernia trying to figure it out gramps,” She jeered as the Dragon flew backwards, “I know all sorts of little secrets.” Suddenly, her and the Dragon’s signatures vanished. “Like how to suppress my own energy.”

“That’s impossible!” He said aloud. He looked desperately for any sign of the pair, but they had vanished completely.

When the pilot spoke again, her voice was strained. “Maybe for you. You have no idea what you’re…” She struggled to force the words out, “dealing with.” She gasped for breath, “You’re lucky, Kiliaak reinforcements just showed up. Looks like you and I have to postpone this dance till later.”

Leviathan heard the Dragon hovering overhead, and desperately fired a blast towards the sound, but to no avail. He clenched his jaw in anger, then remembered Kraken. “Kraken, where are you?”

Weakly, the warlord raised his hand, “Behind you. Try not to step on me, old friend.”

Leviathan knelt down, and did his best to heal Kraken’s wounds. “How bad is it.” He asked.

Kraken sniffed disdainfully, “Not as bad as London.” The servos of his destroyed arms whirred weakly, “The arms are trashed though. Shame, I liked the flamethrowers.” He looked up at his friend, his eyes widening in shock. “Your eyes!” He cried out, “What did she do to you?!”

Leviathan’s face fell for a moment. “She sprayed me with the creature’s blood.” He said quickly. He blinked again, but his vision wouldn't return. “I…I can’t see anything.”

Kraken’s eyes flashed with rage. “Bastards! We’ve been fighting the scum in the shadows for years, but now they’ve gone too far! First Sol, now this!”

“They attacked the Sol? Where, what happened?”

Kraken froze, then looked away. “Not the Sol Alliance, Leviathan, Sol the star.” Kraken paused, then said quietly. “They destroyed your sun.”

Leviathan couldn’t speak, he could barely even breathe. “The Earth, what happened to Earth?”

“I don’t know.” Kraken said quietly, “I chased The Hand fleet here to save you. The Kiliaak Empress stayed behind with her personal fleet to protect it and Joseph. He’s badly wounded, but he’ll survive.” He glanced back up at Leviathan, but the Guardian wasn’t looking at him anymore.

Leviathan’s eyes were pale and sightless, but his expression held anything but defeat. “Take me home, Kraken. Now.”
